Keeping Leather Traditions Alive: Gebo Leather Brings Craftsmanship, Community, and Connection to SKINZ Fashion Show

For Bryan Horne, leather has always been about more than fashion. It is about history, identity, and the connections built through a shared community. With more than 30 years of involvement in the Leather and kink communities, Bryan brings decades of experience and a deep respect for tradition to this year’s SKINZ Fashion Show.

Originally from Los Angeles, Bryan moved to San Diego in 2020, where a chance meeting at San Diego Pride changed the course of his journey. He connected with Steve Wendt, longtime owner of Moose Leather, and soon began working alongside his new mentor. After Wendt’s passing in 2024, Bryan stepped forward to continue that legacy, transforming Moose Leather into Gebo Leather while honoring the craftsmanship and community that came before.

Inspired by the ancient Viking rune “Gebo,” meaning “gift,” the brand reflects the idea that every handcrafted piece carries meaning. “Each custom piece is more than an accessory, it’s a gift of respect, love, and lasting connection,” says Bryan.

That personal connection is at the heart of his creative process. Rather than simply designing garments, Bryan works closely with clients to create pieces that reflect their personalities, bodies, and stories. “Most of what I do are custom pieces, so I enjoy working with my clients and brainstorming with them, to get the right piece for them,” he explains. His designs draw from traditional Leather aesthetics while incorporating influences from alternative music and modern styles.

For Bryan, participating in SKINZ Fashion Show is about celebrating creativity while supporting the community that has inspired his work. Continuing the advocacy started by his mentor, Gebo Leather supports local Leather organizations and title competitions, and this year’s show will benefit the North County LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

When asked to describe his passion in one word, Bryan “The WORD is Tradition.” “Tradition is one of the cornerstones of the Leather community,” he says. Through handcrafted designs, repairs, and custom creations, he hopes to preserve those traditions while making space for future generations to create their own stories.
