Transgender Day of Visibility Week of Action: March 21-28, 2025
By Gus Hernandez
Join trans and nonbinary folks, allies, and advocates at The San Diego LGBT Community Center and participate in the Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) Week of Action, dedicated to celebrating and uplifting our transgender and nonbinary community members. Everyone is invited to join in these important events in honor of TDOV, which kicks off with the Transgender and Nonbinary Visibility Summit on March 21 and culminates with the Transgender Pride Flag Raising on March 28.

Transgender and Nonbinary Visibility Summit – March 21
TDOV Week of Action begins with the Transgender and Nonbinary Visibility Summit on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening will start with a resource fair, where attendees can connect with local organizations and services that support the transgender and nonbinary community. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the resources available through Project TRANS and the FACE Team (Fierce Advocacy and Civic Engagement) at The Center.
Following the resource fair, the FACE Team will lead a presentation addressing the Trump administration’s anti-trans executive actions and a discussion about how we can respond as a community. These executive orders have raised significant concerns within our community, as they threaten to undermine the rights and protections of transgender individuals. This presentation aims to empower attendees with knowledge and strategies to advocate for transgender rights and protections. The summit is a chance to gain valuable insights and connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference.

Trans(Gender) 101 Training – March 28
Education is a crucial component of the TDOV Week of Action. The Center’s Training Institute will lead the Trans(Gender) 101 Training on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10 a.m. This inclusive training is designed for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of gender identity and expression. Topics covered will include gender identity, pronouns, gender-inclusive language, and the transitioning process.
This training is an excellent opportunity for allies to learn how to support their transgender and nonbinary friends, family members, and colleagues. It also provides a safe space for transgender individuals to share their experiences and connect with others who understand their journey. The training is free and will be held in person at The Center, making it accessible to all who wish to attend.

TDOV Flag Raising – March 28
TDOV Week of Action will culminate with a powerful and symbolic event: the Transgender Pride Flag Raising at the Hillcrest Flagpole. Following the flag raising, a brief ceremony with speakers from various organizations will uplift the transgender and nonbinary community. Gather with community members to restate our commitment to visibility, acceptance, and equality for the transgender and nonbinary community. The raising of the Transgender Pride Flag is a moment of pride and solidarity, reminding us all of the importance of standing together in support of transgender rights. It is a moment to reflect on the progress we have made and to reaffirm our dedication to the ongoing fight for equality and justice.
