Kaleidoscope Heart Beats in San Diego
By Berto Fernandez
Pop star Jason Mraz decided to establish a donor-based foundation to offer yearly grants, program support, and performance opportunities to nonprofit Southern California Arts organizations who provide Arts education to our community. The foundation’s mission statement is to “shine for inclusive arts education and the advancement of equality. Our purpose is to cause peace in the world.”
In 2019, they produced their first performance program in Southern California called SHINE, an original musical concert featuring Jason Mraz & Friends in collaboration with San Diego arts organizations, to sold out crowds at the Spreckels Theatre.
This year, the foundation is partnering with eight San Diego non-profit organizations that will join Jason Mraz and the Jason Mraz Foundation for KALEIDOSCOPE, a community concert event taking place February 17 and 18 at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
The organizations participating this year are: A Step Beyond, Banding Together, Diversionary Theatre, Monarch School, San Diego Young Artists Music Academy, Tap Fever Studios, Tierra Caliente Academy of Arts, and Wheelchair Dancers Organization, who will join Jason Mraz on stage and perform songs from his catalog to shine a light on tomorrow’s artists and the importance of inclusive arts programming.
