Doja Cat – One More Time
By Korie Houston
“I don’t need you to save me. I don’t need you to read my mind”
There’s a strange kind of peace that comes after everything falls apart. Not the kind that feels good but more like a quiet acceptance. The kind that says, “I’ve seen what breaks me, and I’m still here.” Doja Cat’s new album Vie encompasses so much about love, choosing your own peace and the desire to just say what you want. Each song has this 80’s retro vibe that just makes me want to find a reason to fall in love One More Time.
“You’re the truth that I’m facing. No more lies.”
These lyrics remind me that being on a journey of healing has a way of humbling you. You learn that seeing the best in people is about seeing the best in yourself. In truth, I put my heart on the line too much. And in turn I lie to myself about the toll that takes on me. What does that truth look like when I embrace it?

“It’s a home where you’re laying. And I know I gotta make you mine. It’s a risk worth taking. One more time.”
When you’ve been hurt and open yourself to new possibilities, the next person becomes both a mirror and a test. They remind you that you’re still capable of feeling, even if you’re unsure what to do with it. It’s not about finding someone to fix what’s broken, it’s about finding someone or a moment that makes you want to try and experience it again. For me it’s an indescribable desire to explore a feeling I’ve been chasing since a moment in Europe.
There’s always risk involved. In wanting again. In letting your heart be open to those experiences. As I’ve said, I always wear mine on my sleeve.
“We’re willingly uncomfortable. I want you to teach me. We’re both feeling unlovable.”
We as people need to stop rehearsing the old endings and start believing in new beginnings. You learn to let someone see the real version of you—the one that’s still a little afraid, but trying to be their best. You’ll fall short a lot but actively choosing to let your feelings guide you is part of the journey.
“When we get closer, I curse it. Breaking the cycle, I know I deserve it”
Maybe the point was never to find something perfect. Maybe it’s to find something honest. Something that breathes. Something that makes you want to say yes, even after all the times you said never again. Let’s break the shackles that we find ourselves in.
“Flying to fall, dying to love. If you wanted to know I am the one, try me one more.”
What I can learn from the music is that love isn’t about saving anyone. It’s about showing up authentically, imperfectly, and taking on what you can handle even if it’s putting it all on the line. Do it slow, do it fast, do it often. No, I’m not talking about sex, but it is definitely a metaphor for it. What I mean is it’s okay to let yourself get lost in the moments that make you feel happy with wanting to fall for someone.
