Art Brief: Local Artist RD Riccoboni Wins American LGBTQ Museum Award

By Patric Stillman

Renowned San Diego painter RD Riccoboni has been awarded the top prize by The American LGBTQ+ Museum (New York City) for his artwork “All That Glitters Is You.” The vibrant piece, capturing the San Diego Pride Parade from 6th and Robinson, has been selected for the museum’s first branded wine label. The wine, produced by Bergevin Lane Vineyards—a queer woman-owned vineyard in Washington state—will be available later this year. Riccoboni’s artwork will also be featured in a national campaign to promote the wine.

The selected artwork is currently on display in Riccoboni’s studio at The Studio Door art gallery, with a print showcased in the windows of the Hillcrest Business Association at University and Hebert, directly across from the Hillcrest Pride Flag. Additional works by Riccoboni can be found at his studio #16B in the Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park.

The American LGBTQ+ Museum aims to preserve, investigate, and celebrate the diverse histories and cultures of the LGBTQ+ community, advancing equality through the lens of social justice movements. The museum’s partnership with Direct Wines, Inc. for its branded wine aims to support its educational programs and exhibitions. This high-quality, small-batch Bordeaux blend (420 cases) will feature Riccoboni’s winning artwork on its label, bringing together art, history, and celebration in every bottle.
