A Beautiful Noise: Welcome Home Denver Dizon

A Beautiful Noise makes its San Diego premiere at the San Diego Civic Theatre with performances Tuesday, May 27 – Sunday, June 1. Created in collaboration with Neil Diamond himself, A Beautiful Noise is the uplifting true story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chart-busting, show-stopping American rock icon. With 120 million albums sold, a catalogue of classics like “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans,” and “Sweet Caroline,” an induction into the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and sold-out concerts around the world that made him bigger than Elvis, Neil Diamond’s story was made to shine on Broadway-and head out on the road across America. We had the pleasure of chatting with San Diego native Denver Dizon before they make their debut with the National Tour of A Beautiful Noise.

When did you discover your passion for singing / acting / performing?:

I discovered my passion for performing very early on, specifically during the height of the High School Musical franchise. When the first movie came out, I learned all the dances, all the lyrics, and knew that performing was what I was going to do someday!

Please give us a brief history of how your passion has become a career:

As a Capricorn, I have always been extremely driven so as soon as I could start getting training, I did! After transferring to a performing arts high school, I went on to attend Emerson College where I received my BFA. I graduated college, worked regional theatre gigs here and there, worked regular gigs here and there, auditioned a bunch, and worked so hard to get here!

You are a native San Diegan and graduated from Chula Vista High School as school for the creative & performing arts. How does it feel to be coming back to San Diego on your first National Tour?:

It feels so surreal, amazing, and CORRECT. As a child, I grew up going to the Civic Theatre quite a bit, trying to see all of the new Broadway tours in town. I always had so much admiration for the actors but, at the same time, I somehow always knew that that was going to be my future one day. So actually, getting to come back to this theatre with my first National Tour is truly a dream come true and my inner child is definitely freaking out!

What is your favorite number from A Beautiful Noise?:

“Cherry, Cherry.” So much is happening all over the stage, the ensemble is running around everywhere, dancing and grooving the entire time. It is so much fun to do and watch!

What is the one thing that you have enjoyed about touring?:

I loved getting to visit the different vintage stores/thrift shops across the country. I love fashion and shopping second hand, so getting to collect different pieces and souvenirs from the different states has been such a treat!

What are some of your other passions aside from performing?:

Songwriting, guitar, piano, fashion, art, drag. Truly anything and everything creative!
